How do wind farms make electricity?

  • A wind turbine works in exactly the opposite way of a fan. A fan uses electricity to make wind while a turbine uses wind to make electricity!
  • When the blades turn, or rotate, they cause the generator to spin. This creates electricity.

  • The generator is then linked to a substation below the turbine. The substation then carries the electricity to the national grid where it can be used in people’s homes and businesses.
